next week

William is going to school in underwear next week. The experiment of gently letting him learn potty training is over. I hope he's going to be OK.

He was tired and easily upset last night. Andrew and him fight at times, which is tough for me. They say they'll grow out of it.

Andrew has a cool new phrase, "wake up silly head."

We had a nice Memorial weekend. We had a lazy day at home, going to the park. Sunday we went to Josephine, Michael, Ava and Evan's, in New Jersey. Then we went to see Sebastian, who is featured in the recent photos. Such huge cheeks. He looks like Virginia around the eyes. There is Tim also.

thank you

Thank you to Aida for hosting the party and all her hard work. Thank you to Diana, Natasia, Virginia, Magalie, for all their hard work. Thanks to everyone else who helped out.

Thank you to all the people who came to William's belated big birthday party (we had a family one on the day). Thank you for all the presents for William, for the boys! We opened the moonsand, and brought play dough stuff for everyone to play. Natasia organized some games. We had a pinata and cake.

We had William's classmates come, kids from his gymnastics class, and family! It was a lovely festive gathering. Everyone seemed to have fun.

Towards the end, the sun was hitting the clouds, and for me it was a beautiful moment, in the gloaming. All the people gathering, I felt the fruits of the hard work (and I did relatively nothing compared to others).

I felt already spent, but I got out the remote control Speed Racer, that was finally charged after 4 hours of charging, and worked to make people share and not just take the remote. Lots of begging and pleading, and resistance to sharing. Andres got it first and he shared quite nice. But he didn't handle not getting it back so well. I got to go home with him, and he fell asleep. Quite a long day. Diana got to sleep in, but all the sturm und drang woke her. She says she's tired. We have Seth's party today.

Mother

Kate hipped me to this article about favorite words. The top favorite word is "Mother".

Here's the article:

Mother is the most beautiful word in the English language, according to a survey of over 40,000 overseas voters and learners of English at our teaching centres. The survey was conducted to coincide with our 70th anniversary celebrations.

We asked over 7,000 learners in 46 countries what they considered to be the most beautiful words in the English language. In addition an online poll was run via our websites in all non-English speaking countries.

The online poll was constructed and the results analysed using Confirmit, the world’s Number one online survey and reporting software www.confirmit.com. Over 35,000 people voted.

According to the survey results, the top ten most beautiful words in the English language are as follows:

1. Mother
2. Passion
3. Smile
4. Love
5. Eternity
6. Fantastic
7. Destiny
8. Freedom
9. Liberty
10. Tranquillity

Wally

We're calling the wart "Wally". Wally the wart. Diana has done good applying the medicine with a delicate proceedure, waiting for it to dry. William has adapted well too it, though he likes to pick the dead skin off.

T-Ball

William isn't into T-Ball, yet. He's the youngest on his team. He prefers mostly to play in the dirt. His participation is inconsistent. His first game on Saturday he wanted to hang out with a friend from school, on the other team, and he wouldn't put on his jersey. He did take some ground balls with me and the coach, so that was good. I'm trying to get him to watch some of the baseball on TV, teach him the game. An dew who can't play seems more into it.

It's interesting, I think I signed myself up for baseball in 6th grade. I like sports, think they are wonderful. So we've had him doing swimming, gymnastics and now T-Ball. There's also basketball and other things to sign them up for. Hopefully we'll do artistic things too. Diana is talking about a cooking class.

I suppose there's a part of me that says, "I didn't have so much when I was growing up." But I also had a bike and trees to climb, sleds and ice skates, outdoors were safe and I was allowed to roam freely. My boys are growing up in NYC and they really need structured things to do, they can't just go outside and play safely. So in a way, they have more safety restrictions.

They have been to museums I never went to. They have more exciting movies and TV to watch. I only watched cartoons on Saturday. They play with the computer, though not much yet. Andrew seems particularly bewitched by technology, seems to want his own iPod already. He likes to wail away at the computer. The boys are very different, but I love them both. I'm glad ICP classes are on break till September, I'm only going to be gone one night a week now, instead of 2 which is difficult now that I leave for work so early in the morning with my new job.

Tessy and Tab

My boys love getting Tessy and Tab in the mail. It's a twice a month magazine for ages 2-6. With Andrew 2.5 and W 4, they both enjoy it. The stories are great, and they enjoy trying to find the things in the photos at the end. They're not old enough to find the words yet, but it's built to grow with them. There's a letter of the day and number of the day. Also there's always the Peek-a-Bug in every issue that they like to find. I highly recommend it: The Tessy and Tab Reading Club Magazine. The website also has good enhancements to the text, they have printable signs for some of the stories, and other info. It goes more into the 6 skills they specifically target, and more.

wart

We spent $75 at the doctor's to find out we could treat William's wart with over the counter medication. It takes 3 months on my new job to get my benefits.

William has been using the word "cheater" when he feels cheated, which is often, because the world doesn't collaborate with his wishes all the time. He also uses the word "crazy" a lot. I prefer the word silly.

We had Robyn's Confirmation yesterday, and party. The family gathered. I got to meet Victor's new son. I have some photos on Facebook. I'm trying to upload photos from my cell phone, as a kind of backup. I want to collect and record the children's life as much as I can.

Leaving before they wake up, has been harder on them then I thought it would be. And missing them for 2 days is rather hard, when I have ICP on Tuesday and Wednesday. I'm glad classes are going to be stopping soon.

I've got a bad cold. I skipped the monthly practice day because I'm sick and because I want to spend time with the boys. They are still a little clingy after being away for the previous week.
