playgrounds NYC

Virginia hipped me to this article in the NY Times about playgrounds in NYC. I'm using the blog to keep the link alive in my mind. I think it could be cool to find all these playgrounds.

Ashton with boys

William put together this 48 piece puzzle by himself!

Nati graduated from grade school.

Our little girl is becoming a woman. I cry seeing her grow up, she's wonderful. She graduated from elementary school, and is going to be going to a good middle school. I'm proud of her, her mother and the family that supports her. I wish her the very best.

Father's Day Card

I know it's something the teacher xeroxed and cut out, but I think William glued it to a card he made, and I was rather touched by the sentiment. It means a lot to me to be a father. I'm also going to be missing them when they go on a trip next Tuesday for a week, to visit some in-law family in Tennessee, to have a kind of family trip with the extended family. Anyway, here's a photo of the inside of the card.

lots happening

William is doing well with his potty training. Di visited yesterday and so did Godfather Paul. Di brought wonderful presents for the boys, cook a lovely dinner. It's so good to see her. Natasia graduated from elementary school. One photo of the event shows her as tall as Villo. Makes me cry to see her growing up. It's hit me that my boys are going down south for a week and I won't see them for a week. I'm very overwhelmed by it all, and I haven't blogged it. I love my boys. William is on vacation from school, he's hopefully going to be doing summer school if some paperwork can be done, and he call it his "sucation", which is another cutism of his.

Beginning of a great adventure

Lou Reed has a lovely song called Beginning of a great adventure:

It might be great to have a kid that I could kick around
a little me to fill up with my thought
A little me or he or she to fill up with my dreams
a way of saying life is not a loss

I'd keep the tyke away from school and tutor him myself
keep him from the poison of crowd
But then again pristine isolation might not be the best idea
It's not good trying to immortalize yourself

Beginning Of A Great Adventure
Beginning Of A Great Adventure

Why stop at one, I might have ten, a regular TV brood
I'd breed a little liberal army in the wood
Just like these redneck lunatics I see at the local bar
with their tribe of mutant inbred piglets with cloven hoovers

I'd teach them how to plant a bomb, start a fire, play guitar
and if they catch a hunter, shoot him in the nuts
I'd try to be as progressive as I could possibly be
as long as I didn't have to try too much

Beginning Of A Great Adventure
Beginning Of A Great Adventure

Susie, Jesus, Bogart, Sam Leslie, Jill and Jeff
Rita, Winny, Andy, Fran and Jet
Boris, Bono, Lucy, Ethel Bunny, Reg and Tom
that's a lot of named to try not to forget

Carrie, Marlon, No and Steve La Rue and Jerry Lee
Eggplant, Rufus, Dummy, Star and The Glob
I'd need a damn computer to keep track of all these names
I hope this baby thing don't go too far

I hope it's true what my wife said to me
I hope it's true what my wife said to me
Hey I hope it's true what my wife said to me

She says, baby, it's the Beginning of a Great Adventure
Baby, it's the Beginning of a Great Adventure
Take a look

It might be fun to have a kid that I could kick around
create in my own image like a god
I'd raise my own pallbearers to carry me to my grave
and keep me company when I'm a wizened toothless clod

Some gibbering old fool sitting all alone drooling on his shirt
some senile old fart playing in the dirt
It might be fun to have a kid I could pass something on to
something better than rage, pain, anger and hurt

I hope it's true what my wife said to me
I hope it's true what my wife said to me
I hope it's true what my wife said to me
She says Lou, it's the Beginning of a Great Adventure
Lou, Lou, Lou, Beginning of a Great Adventure
She says baby, how you call your lover boy
Sylvia, quite you call your lover man

Here's where I got the lyrics.

Office George

Diana's brother, who is a police detective, went to William's class. The other day a kid's father who is a fireman came to the class. Diana says the kids were all over the place, and the teacher was the one asking the questions. One kid asked if he had to be strong. They asked what his strongest muscle is. The teacher put up her biceps. Officer George pointed to his head.

I'm a bit jealous, explaining to the class what a psychotherapist is, isn't easy. I'm not invited. I don't have walkie talkies or vests or cool hats.

Photos, which I will upload later, show William very proud of his uncle George. In the videos he's trying to talk to the kids, but they're a bit of a handful. He did well. Thank you Officer George, who's really a detective, and is called Harry in the family.

William's school year is over Thursday. I think school has been a positive experience for him. It kills me I can't walk him to school any more with my new job.

Queens County Farm

We went to a birthday party at Queens County Farm. I sent some videos to Facebook.

dropped the duec in the bowl

William earned the dinosaur puzzle for going #2 on the potty.

45/30

William weighs 45lbs. and Andrew weighs 30lbs.

We saw Kung Fu Panda yesterday. Not bad. My favorites are still Balto and Finding Nemo. Bee story isn't bad, that's got a heavy rotation these days, but I can't stay awake for the end. We put it in and I fall asleep.

We went to one park. A wild kid, dropped a bottle and the person in charge of him didn't pick it up, which annoyed me. We went for pizza and went to another park. Some of W&A's friends were there. William went around in his underwear, Andrew in his pull-up.

William had some "accidents" and whatnot, it's a lot of work to have him go to the bathroom every 30 minutes. I'm going to make it every 45 minutes today. We're going to use a pull-up at night. Potty training for the night is something to put off into the future, we want to break it down in to as many small bits as possible.

We went out at 11:30 and got home at 5. The boys were tired zombies watching TV. I took some photos with my phone that I put up on Facebook.

Today it's Leah's birthday party.

update

William didn’t wear underwear to school this week. The teacher decided we should try it first, so I’m starting today—no pull up today, only underwear. He’s done OK, though there are accidents. He resists going every 30 minutes, but does have to go. One time he stopped it coming out, and then went. Another time he just let it come out and it’s on the couch and everything. We have to go out and get some underwear, we’re on our 3rd pair this morning.

Andrew likes white chocolate, William doesn’t, like Diana.

Tuesday I come home late. I was in the street in front of my co-op at 10pm. Cars honked outside my boys windows. I went to the car, the guy rolled down his window. I said, “My children are asleep upstairs. Horns are for danger, not impatience.” The older Jewish man said, “you’re right, you’re right,” and looked sheepish.

Diana is taking care of Ashton in the day while Victor and Carmen work. Apparently William tells everyone everything about the family. He was calling him Ashton Sebastian. Sebastian is Virginia and Tim’s baby, they get a little confused at times. Diana said, “we’d never name some Ashton Sebastian.”
